Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to assist on the Hermosa Fire on the evening of August 3, 2022. The fire ignited around 5:00 PM and is burning in thick brush.

The Hermosa Fire has prompted evacuations in the area, which have since been lifted. Please use extreme caution as firefighters and emergency vehicles will still be operating in and around the fire area.

Texas A&M Forest Service is working in unified command with Hays County. The agency responded with heavy equipment, such as dozers, and aircraft, including single engine air tankers.

Weather Synopsis

Weather Concerns
Elevated fire weather conditions are possible this afternoon into
this evening. Southerly winds of 5 to 10 mph this morning become
southeasterly at 10 to 15 mph with gusts to 25 mph this afternoon through this evening. Minimum humidity levels will be around 35 percent this afternoon with a good recovery to near 94 percent by Monday morning. There are low chances of wetting rains from showers and thunderstorms late this afternoon into early this evening. There is a potential for lightning outside of rain areas to start new fires due to dry to extremely dry vegetation. Also, erratic and gusty winds are expected near showers and thunderstorms.
