Incident Photo for the Little Highline Fire

 The Highline Fire is located 12 miles north of downtown Amarillo, just west of US Highway 287. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to assist with the fire early in the afternoon of April 23, 2022. TAMFS is in unified command of the fire with Potter County.

Burn out operations conducted the evening of 4/23/22 have been completed. The areas where the fire had slopped over containment lines have been contained within the area of burn out. The morning of 4/24/22, the fire had some areas of activity, on the left flank near the head of the fire. Dozer line continued to be established. By the evening of 4/24/22, all containment lines built by dozers were tied together with the exception of two spot fires. Crews were working on those spots as other resources continued to patrol and mop up the fire.

Mop up of lines and areas of concern will continue. Resources will patrol the fire working towards 100% containment.
Projected Incident Activity
All dozer lines on the fire have been tied in to with the exception of 2 spot fires. Crew are currently working on those spots. All other resources are patrolling and mopping up. All areas of concern from this morning have been mitigated.

Tomorrow, mop up of lines and areas of concern will continue. Resources will patrol the fire working towards 100% containment.

Weather Synopsis

Weather Concerns
Wind speeds continue to run at the top end of forecasted speeds, with gusts out of the northeast at 20 - 30 mph expected to continue this afternoon. Winds will turn subtly clockwise towards the east and decrease speed following sunset. A secondary cold front will push southward tonight, causing winds to increase to 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 25 mph once again out of the northeast after midnight.

Both this afternoon and tomorrow look to have minimum relative humidity levels around 20% with overnight humidity recoveries to around 50 percent Sunday night. Some precipitation may occur in the nothhwestern Panhandle by Monday, but this is not anticipated to impact the fire site.
