Incident Overview
On the afternoon of August 1, 2022, numerous air and ground resources responded to the Beech Creek fire on the Blue Mountain Ranger District of the Malheur National Forest. The fire is located nine miles south of Long Creek, OR and is burning on both sides of Highway 395. The High Desert Type 3 Incident Management Team assumed command of the fire on August 2, 2022.
There are no evacuations in place. Travelers are encouraged to check road conditions for up to date information on closures or delays prior to traveling in the area.

Narrative:
The current incident consists of Ponderosa Pine, Douglas Fir, and White Fir overstory with the same tree species component in the understory. East side of highway 395 has more grasses intermixed with the conifer and pine overstory. Fuels are a similar mix south and north. Fuel conditions are drying and
receptive to spotting across the entire fire perimeter. North aspects remain moist with patchy
consumption of fuels. 1000-hr fuels continue to be available and receptive to spotting.

Weather Concerns
Temperatures were slightly cooler and relative humidity was slightly higher. Cloud cover was more prevalent today, although still only partly cloudy most of the day. Wind speeds were higher and gusty as storms moved in.
A weather system will bring a chance of thunderstorms to the area Wednesday and low daytime RHs each of the next few days, through Saturday. Some of the storms may produce frequent lightning along with gusty winds especially over Central Oregon that may create critical fire weather conditions.
