Incident Photo for the 3 Oaks Fire

 The 3 Oaks fire started around 3pm on March 14th, 2022. Local Fire departments responded quickly and requested Texas A&M Forest Service. Two task forces responded to the fire and brought air resources on scene to begin suppressing the fire. This fire quickly grew larger due to the high winds and is reported to be six miles long and two miles wide. Extreme fire behavior was showcased the first night including active runs, long distance spotting, and 30 foot flame lengths.

Crews observed interior torching of junipers in the early afternoon, but behavior has decreased as aircraft made effective water drops. Fire behavior was moderate today with some torching and smoldering

Planned Actions
Continue to utilize ground resources to construct line and aerial resources to slow growth and improve lines. TIFMAS strike team is mitigating hazard trees and any heat threatening the line.
Projected Incident Activity
Low to moderate potential for growth through the next operational period. Crews reporting that the heel of the fire remained active until 5AM this morning. Seeing an increase in interior torching early afternoon and line construction is slow due to very rough terrain.

Weather Concerns
Sunny, very warm and dry weather is expected today with increasing southerly winds this afternoon. High temperatures will be near 80 degrees. Relative humidity around 70 percent this morning will fall to near 20 percent late this afternoon. A south wind will gradually increase through the day with occasional gusts as high as 24 mph this afternoon. No precipitation or wind shifts are anticipated through tonight.
