Per Bryan Gaines, District Fire Management Officer, the Kern River Ranger District of the Sequoia National Forest is planning to burn fuel piles tomorrow, Wednesday, November 10, 2021, if weather, air quality, and fuel moisture conditions, permit.

The unit is located in the Black Mountain Saddle area, a mile north of Greenhorn Summit.  The area will cover approximately 6 acres of timber slash piles, which are the result of thinning projects on drought and beetle killed trees.

The objective of the thinning project is to make conifer forests and other associated wildlife habitat more resilient to wildfire, reduce hazardous accumulations of vegetation and fuels, reduce overall fire danger to firefighters and the public, and to build resilience to future catastrophic wildfires.

Smoke may be visible from several communities surrounding Isabella Lake.

For further information, please call the Kernville Ranger Station at (760) 376-3781, Mon.-Fri., 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
