Incident Photo for the Chikamin Fire

The Chikamin Fire is located in the Chikamin Ridge area 22 miles north of Leavenworth, Washington. This fire is burning in heavy timber in steep inaccessible terrain. Ranger district personnel are utilizing natural features, existing roads and trails, and the footprints of past fire areas to contain the spread of the fire. The fire is still within the confines of the old Wolverine Fire burn scar.

The closure of roads and trails, to provide for public safety and firefighter safety on the Chikamin Fire, has been lifted.

Anyone entering the fire area should be cautious as areas may still have smoke and smoldering fire. Fire can smolder below the ground in root channels and in stump holes, watch where you step. Limit your use to just travelling through burned areas to reach recreation sites or destinations outside of the burns. Snags are dead trees that can fall at any time. Snags can be blackened, killed trees, or even green trees burned through at the bottom. It's best not to travel through recently burned areas during windy conditions. Steep slopes and loss of vegetation may cause rolling rocks and debris flows off hillsides at any time. The likelihood of these events increases with rain and freeze-thaw events. Always let someone know your itinerary and where you will be.
