Significant Events

Fire behavior is active, especially in canyon areas where heat and terrain work together to accelerate fire movement. The fire is spreading quickly in some areas ("running") and is producing embers that travel ahead of the main fire and start new fires ("spotting"). These conditions can make control efforts more difficult, as the fire may move in unpredictable ways or cross containment lines. Periods of intense burning, where trees or groups of trees ignite all at once ("torching"), have also been observed.

Outlook

Planned Actions
Firefighters will continue to engage in full suppression operations utilizing direct and indirect tactics with ground and aviation resources, minimize threats to structures and high valued natural resources.
Projected Incident Activity
A Red Flag Warning is in place till 8pm tonight for gusty winds and low relative humidity values. This could lead to extreme rates of spread through the evening hours. Projected winds are out of the SW with winds near 20 mph and gusts near 35 mph. This would potentially spread the fire to the northeast for an estimated 2,000 acres of growth if crews are unable to secure the perimeter during todays shift.
