Smoke

The Buck Fire started on Bureau of Land Management land on 6/11/2025 at approximately 7:30pm from a lightning strike due to thunderstorm activity. It is exhibiting moderate to high fire activity. Multiple resources are on scene and the Albuquerque Zone Type 3 team assumed command of the fire at 6pm on June 14, 2025. Members of the public should avoid the Buck Fire area.

Smoke may be visible from Highway 12 southeast of the community of Aragon, NM and southwest of Highway 60. Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory problems or heart disease are encouraged to take precautionary measures. Another hot and fairly dry day across the fire area as temperatures climbed into the mid to upper 80s and humidity levels dropped to
5-10%. Winds are out of the South to Southwest at 13-18 mph with occasional gusts to 25 mph. Isolated high-based showers produced some lightning strikes east and southeast of the fire, but nothing tracked across the fire perimeter. Hot and dry conditions will persist for Friday. A Red Flag Warning has been issued over the fire area today from 12pm-9pm.
