Updated: 1 day, 11 hours ago — The Winchester Fire has received heavy precipitation over the last 24 hours and is 90% contained. The lightning-caused fire was mapped on Monday, July 30th, and is 1,708 acres. The fire has been in monitor status since it was discovered and is being used a resource benefit fire, to help reduce some of the overgrown fuels on that side of the Winchester Mountains. The fire is not expected to grow much more but will continue to smolder in some areas. The Winchester fire was found by aircraft Thursday, July 26th, in the southeastern portion of the Winchester Mountains, just northwest of Wilcox. No structures are threatened.
